HydroTherapy at Home
When cozy sweaters and pumpkin spice lattes come out, swimsuits get put away. Or do they?
If you’re looking for a reason to enjoy your beautiful pool just a little longer, we can help. So crank up your water heater, and schedule your closing for October, because you’re going to try HydroTherapy this fall.
This is one of the oldest forms of medical treatments: swim, soak, or exercise in water as a form of alleviating certain conditions and ailments. Today modern experts in sports medicine, mental health, and physical therapy, recommend using spas and pools for “HT” – just like the one in your backyard! So what can your pool and spa do?
- Reduce Stress and Replenish Muscles: Water immersion provides a respite from the constant force of gravity, relieving fatigue, sore muscles, and swelling joints. If available, massaging jets further enhance these benefits. Especially if you’re an athlete or if you have a stressful job, regularly soaking in a spa as the weather gets colder helps loosen your body, relax your mind, and reduce the risk of injury.
- Minimize Arthritis: The most common symptoms of arthritis are pain, inflammation and stiffness of the joints. Just as the controlled temperature and pressure of spas can heal your muscles, so too can they help to minimize arthritic symptoms. The warm water dilates blood vessels, allowing blood to flow through your body more freely. This helps flush lactic acid buildup from muscles, and rushes to them the oxygen and nutrients that speed up recovery – especially after all day at the office, in the yard, or doing other chores and exercise.
- Improving sleep quality: Hot water decompresses your joints, increases your circulation and lowers your blood pressure and heart rate. You begin to become drowsy as your body temperature gradually drops after a soak, setting the tone for a tranquil night. Sleep is an important part of your physical and emotional health, and a hot tub soak before bed can help you get a better night’s rest. When you’re well rested and able to maintain a regular sleep pattern, you’ll feel more energetic even as the days get shorter and colder.
